"The Quilt"
The latest addition to my ONE Project - a portrait of Cheryl Locklear and her quilt.
Here is Cheryl's story:
“When I heard of this special project, the ONE project, I was intrigued and loved the concept of identifying an object in one’s life that holds special meaning. It caused me to think about which object in my life I would choose, and it came to me immediately, my mother’s quilt.
My mother, Mary Ann, loved this quilt that was hand made and hand quilted by her aunt, My great Aunt Emma, almost 50 years ago. It is a treasure that my mother proudly displayed on her and my dad’s king size bed for many years. When I hold it, I think about my parents’ hands touching and holding this quilt. It has always made me feel like I am holding a piece of them again and they are with me.
I have always recognized the beauty of this quilt but it wasn’t until about 12 years ago when I took up quilting myself that I fully realized the many hours of painstaking love that went into the making of this quilt, increasing my appreciation and gratitude many times over for my great Aunt’s labor of love.
My mother and dad are gone now yet a part of them is embedded in this quilt. I know it will continue to bring me and generations to come many wonderful memories and will always be near and dear to my heart.
This is for you, mom!
