Rebecca's Bicycle

Larry Lourcey

Hi and welcome to my blog!I do my best
to keep things updated and give you a look at things happening behind the scenes here at Lourcey Photography. Although I've been a professional photographer for over 20 years, I'm also semi-famous for my pizza and bread making. So follow along and enjoy the adventure. And don't be afraid to leave a comment and say hello!

"The Bicycle"

The latest addition to my ONE project- this time with my dear friend Rebecca Boatman.  I met this wonderful lady years ago when I took her Art History class.  We have stayed in touch ever since.  She's not only a very talented artist, but she has a wonderful story about this bike.  I also discovered that her son is a photographer, so hopefully he will get a kick out of this.

Here is Rebecca's story:

I haven’t ridden this bike in years but I cannot get rid of it.  I bought it for $15 when my son Anthony was about 4 months old.  We had just moved to Sycamore, Illinois and I had a bad case of cabin fever.

I saw the ad for the bike in the local paper.  I bought a rear mount infant carrier for $20 more!  I remembered how much I loved my childhood bike and planned for spring rides.

Every afternoon I would go upstairs after his nap and ask, “Do you want to go riding on the bicycle?”  Away we would go for a long ride.  When he first started talking his very first word was “ahtool” aka bicycle!

He still loves and rides bikes….he is 47!  In fact his email includes the name of his bike. I still ride my newer bikes every week, too. We have such a special bond and I believe that our great relationship started with our time together every day on this old JC Higgins that I bought for $15.

In hindsight, it turned out to ...

The Wonders of Technology

Don’t get me wrong- there are certainly days when I long for the “good old days” – when we used film and people didn’t stare at their phones all day.  Technology can certainly be a nuisance.  However, sometimes it comes in pretty darn handy! OFF TO THE ARCTIC This week I was scheduled to speak in Mi...
