Anar's Sari

Another great addition to the ONE Project.  This one involves Anar and her mother's sari.   Here is the story she told me:

My dad, Amin, and mom, Seema, got married in 1985. My father would travel all over the world for work and leisure and would make sure to bring home a Sari (a long, 6ft piece of fabric that South Asian women wrap around their waist and over the shoulder). Bringing home a sari for your wife is a very endearing gesture that a husband makes for big occasions or festivals. This particular sari is one of my favorites! It’s from India and my dad had brought it for her to Pakistan where they lived. My father passed away 17 years ago in 2005 and in honor of him and my mother, I am presenting this sari as my most treasured object. It’s simple, delicate, and the most he could afford at that time. I am humbled to wear the original blouse that my mom had sewn and it is a sari that will, indeed, be passed onto me as an heirloom. My dad was full of love and light and this sari and the fact that I wear all the ones he got her, makes me feel closer to that love and light. May he rest in eternal peace and may our hearts emanate like his did. RIP dad.
