Storming Through Orlando
Aug 26
This weekend, I was in Orlando to judge their state photography convention. Unfortunately, Tropical Storm Fay was putting a big dent in the weather. The first day the wind and rain really picked up and the sky looked very ominous. I only brought my point-and-shoot, so I set it on the table behind me for a shot of the storm.

I pulled a chair up to the window and just sat there watching the storm while I was talking on my cell phone. It was quite a sight to behold – I was certain the trees were all going to blow over.
Luckily, most of the weekend was spent inside the hotel, looking at photographs – one of my favorite pasttimes. I was a on a judging panel with some very talented photographers and we had a great time arguing the finer points of all the entries. Afterwards, I spent a couple of hours walking through the exhibit answering questions for some of the people who entered the competition. I know I’ve asked a million questions during my photo career, so it is nice to have a chance to give back to those who are just starting to enter competition.
Even with the bad weather, there was beautiful light streaming in through my hotel window. Although I had limited photo gear, I couldn’t resist taking a self-portrait, so I set the camera on the desk and shot this one. I wanted to have something to remember my weekend in Orlando.
