Montana
May 01
Heather and I just got back from a fabulous visit to Montana. Reflecting on the trip, two things really stick in my mind: the people are really friendly there and it is really cold!
We spent the first few days in Helena. I judged their print competition on Sunday, then got to relax on Monday. My program was Tuesday morning. We had a good sized crowd and they were very enthusiastic – especially for 8:00 in the morning!

After the program, we noticed it was starting to snow outside, so we talked our pal Amy to take a picture of us outside the hotel.

When you are from Texas, you get kind of excited when you see snow. Unfortunately, we discovered that fascination starts to wear off after a few days.
Once we were packed up, we rented a car and headed to Whitefish, just north of Flathead Lake. If you are ever looking for a good low-key place to go skiiing or just get away from it all, this is the place. We stayed at Good Medicine Lodge, which was honestly one of the top bed and breakfasts we have ever stayed in. I photographed the owners, Woody and Betsy Cox, while we were there. What a great couple!
On our way back to Helena the next day, we had a chance to swing by McDonald Lake. Most of the area was still closed down for the winter, but we managed to take this shot.

All in all, it was a wonderful week. I really hope I can make it back to Montana sometime in the near future.
