Heading to Abstraction

Jul 09

As I work on trying out different painting techniques, I decided to try some more abstract subject matter.  I’ve started a new series – based around using symbols and colors to create a mood or feeling.  Here is the first in the series.

Rather than tell you the title and what I was going for – I’d love to know what you think about it.  What would you title it, what kind of feeling does it evoke, etc?  Be sure to leave a comment and share your thoughts!  (please note- blog comments won’t automatically appear on the site – so don’t worry if it isn’t there right away)

Larry – I would title this piece “Portrait of an Icon Number One.” It reads as a portrait to me, but I could be projecting your known history as a photographer on to the piece. The bold, red strokes appear to be informed by a Chinese character alphabet, but I have no way to judge that. I wondered if it was a number. My pet peeve is artists putting numbers in the title of their series (it’s so dated!), but I would do it here just to be playful with the possible number/character and because it is your first painting series. I hope you make it past five – I get bored!

If I keep writing can I get more chances to offset my Starbucks habit?!?!

    Good luck in the series!
