40 @ Forty Project

Mar 04

On March 16, that dreaded day will finally arrive – I will turn 40.
Now the way I see it, there are really two options:  run and hide
from it or embrace it and be glad I’m still here.  I decided the
latter was more my style.

I was looking for some sort of creative project that would really
push me to the limit.  I’m a big fan of a musician named Ari Hest
who did a project last year where he recorded a new song every
week for an entire year.  I decided to take this concept and put
a photographic spin on it – thus the 40/40 project was born.  This
will involve two of the things people hate the most – turning 40 &
having their picture taken… all wrapped into one neat package.

Starting March 16, I will create a new self-portrait every week
for forty weeks.  Rather than clog up my blog with 40 pictures of
me – which nobody would enjoy – I’ll be updating my Facebook
profile pic every week with the new image.  Be sure to add me
as a friend so you can follow along! (see link below)

Now I know there has to be a few of you out there in the same
boat.  If you are turning 40 this year, you can join in the fun.
I will be offering a free portrait session to anyone who hits 40
in 2009.  Not 39 or 41… it’s gotta be 40.  We will create a cool
portrait and give you a copy – 100% free.  This isn’t a chance
to update your business headshot.  It is a chance to step out of
the box and create an image that captures your personality.
I really hope a few brave souls will take me up on this offer.

Right now, I’m very excited about the project, but there is a very
good chance I will be pulling my hair out by August.  At the very
least, I guess I should be thankful that there is still hair to pull out!

I hope you will follow the project and comment on a few of the
portraits along the way.  Lord knows I’ll need all the encouragement
I can get to pull this thing off.
